Starting in the spring of 1828 he composed many works, among them a Mass, various piano pieces, many songs that were printed posthumously in a collection titled Schwanengesang, as well as the three final piano sonatas. Music publishers were beginning to show more interest in his works, and for a very short time Schubert was free from financial worries.ĭespite his illness, Schubert continued to compose one work after the other. Schubert had been suffering from the effects of syphilis for some time, but he coped with the symptoms and even put on a concert of his own works in March of 1828 that was a success with the public and critics. The last three piano sonatas of Franz Schubert were written during the last months of his life.
